When crime goes up, citizens want out.

People will only tolerate reckless policies for so long.

ITEM #1:
File this one under “actions have consequences”...

A recent segment of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” covered a group of Atlanta-area residents who have had enough of the city’s reckless, anti-law enforcement agenda … and have decided to do something about it:

Yael Halon breaks down the details:

"A seemingly unprovoked weekend violence spree through Atlanta’s ritzy Buckhead neighborhood has highlighted what area officials see as a need for more security and public safety protocols, as the recent crime jump has made some residents too scared to even pump gas at certain places.

"Last week, the Buckhead City Committee, formerly the Buckhead Exploratory Committee, demanded emergency hearings as part of its ongoing effort to become a separate entity from the city of Atlanta, said Bill White, the group’s CEO and chairman.

"'We are living in a war zone,' White told 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' on Monday. 'That is how we describe living in Buckhead. And what has happened here in the last several years is an incredibly dangerous spike in crime and a complete vacuum of leadership. The police in Atlanta are great policemen and women, we love them and they just want to do their job but they are not being allowed to do that,' he said."

This part will make your blood boil:

"White pointed to disturbing video footage he obtained that shows a drive-by shooting in motion as a bullet goes through a nearby vehicle hits an innocent passerby on the street.

"White noted that while police officers were present at the time of the shooting, they were instructed not to chase the suspect to avoid 'getting in accidents.'

"‘My friend who took that ran down to find out why in god's name they didn't chase that person who attempted to murder all those people? And they were told that Mayor [Keisha Lance] Bottoms issued an order not to chase cars around Atlanta because she doesn't want the police getting in accidents,’ he said.”

Noting that his community has decided to "file for divorce" from Atlanta, White added: "One of the things we are positive about is we will put the smackdown on crime once and for all and make Buckhead a great place to live again."

Citizens deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods and in their homes. And if local public policies — increasingly under the direction of dangerous, leftist radicals in so many of our cities — fail to get the job done, then more and more Americans are going to start finding solutions themselves.

ITEM #2:
It sure must be nice being a left-wing radical and knowing the mainstream “news” media will cover for you at every turn...

Fox News’ Brandon Gillespie reports:

“ABC and CBS newscasts ignored the controversy surrounding recent comments from Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., comparing the U.S. and Israel to terrorist organizations Hamas and the Taliban.

“An analysis by the conservative Media Research Center showed the two networks, as well as NBC, ignored the controversy for days following the far-left ‘Squad’ member's Monday remarks, and the bipartisan backlash that led her to clarify their intent.

“According to the MRC, NBC eventually reported on the controversy in its Thursday nightly news report, but seemingly downplayed the backlash by Omar's fellow Democrats calling her out for using ‘false equivalences’ to ‘give cover to terrorist groups.’ ABC and CBS still had not covered the story following their Friday morning news programs.

"‘We must have the same level of accountability and justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban. I asked [Secretary of State Antony Blinken] where people are supposed to go for justice,’ Omar tweeted Monday.”

If members of the press are sympathetic to Omar’s comments, then they’re entitled to that opinion, however misguided and perverse we may think it to be. But they at least owe the American people the facts about what she said, so they can judge those comments for themselves.

ITEM #3:
Another week, another win for the cause of sanity courtesy of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis...

"The Florida Board of Education on Thursday approved a rule that Gov. Ron DeSantis advanced in order to ban teaching certain ideas about race and history.

"The rule reads: 'Instruction on the required topics must be factual and objective and may not suppress or distort significant historical events, such as the Holocaust, and may not define American history as something other than the creation of a new nation based largely on universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence.'

"The rule came as part of a broader push by DeSantis and other Republicans to eliminate what they say are manifestations of critical race theory in schools. DeSantis' office told Fox News that the rule excludes the term 'critical race theory' because 'CRT isn't the only issue.'

"'No child should be classified as a "victim" or "oppressor" based on their race or ethnicity,' said DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw."

Well said.

ITEM #4:

Be sure to check out this must-see interview with North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson on “Unfiltered with Dan Bongino,” in which Robinson makes a passionate case for the importance of the American work ethic.

Asked what motivates him politically, here’s how Robinson, the first African-American lieutenant governor in the state’s history, responded:

"Well, what honestly pushed me into it was something that someone said to me at work about 'talk.' They said talk's not going to do anything. I said, there's nothing you can do about it. You can go down there and talk, but that's not going to get anything done. And I reminded that person that, you know, the revolution in this country didn't start with the ‘shot heard round the world' — it started with ‘talk.’ Friends and neighbors talking to each other about ideas like independence and liberty and freedom and establishing our own nation. And so it starts with a conversation."

He added:

"The American work ethic is one of the most important things that this nation has. People come here and want to come here from all over the world. And why? Because Americans have worked so hard to build this constitutional republic to be the garden spot of the world. We could not allow laziness."

Great stuff.

ITEM #5:

Writing for the New York Post, Miranda Devine has an important piece on how mothers across the country are standing up to resist one of America’s more disgusting cultural trends:

"These mothers’ watershed moment is the hateful cult of 'critical race theory' which is being shoved down their children’s throats under the guise of 'equity' and 'anti-racism.'

"In reality, CRT is simply another version of a deadly old ideology that is Marxist and utopian in nature — only this time it seeks to divide people by race, rather than by class.

"What the mothers instinctively know, in school board meetings across the country where they stand up courageously to fight for their children, is that a poisonous form of brainwashing has crept into the classroom and it hurts everyone equally, regardless of race.

"They see their children divided into an 'oppressor' class and an 'oppressed' class based on the color of their skin. The white kids are the oppressors who are taught to hate themselves, and the nonwhite kids are the oppressed who are taught to hate the white kids. Those Asian, black and Hispanic kids who don’t agree that they are oppressed, who don’t want to be robbed of their agency and looked upon as victims, and don’t want to hate their white friends, are judged also to be suffering from the dreadful scourge of 'whiteness.'"

One mom in particular decided enough was enough:

“Step forward the wonderful Xi Van Fleet, a Virginia woman who escaped China’s Cultural Revolution when she was 26, and gave her local Loudoun County school board a lesson in history at a public meeting last week.

“‘You are now teaching, training our children to be social justice warriors and to loathe our country and our history,’ she said. ‘Critical Race Theory has its roots in cultural Marxism. It should have no place in our school.’”

Devine adds that, “Van Fleet is one of a diverse army of mothers across the country who have become the last line of defense against an ideology that has infiltrated every institution, from the media and universities to the Federal Reserve and even the military.”

Bravo to these brave women for stepping up to protect their kids, and to fight for truth and decency.

ITEM #6:

Speaking of parents pushing back against asininity, Fox News’ Joshua Q. Nelson informs us:

“After a Fairfax County School Board member delivered a scathing speech at a high school commencement ceremony, Virginia parents spoke out Tuesday, rejecting the message about students entering a world of greed, racism and White supremacy.

“Abrar Omeish, the school board's lone Muslim member, delivered the keynote address before a graduation ceremony for Justice High School in Falls Church, Virginia, on June 7. She warned the graduating — mostly minority — high schoolers that they are about to step into a capitalist world filled with racism, White supremacy and ‘extreme versions of individualism.’

"‘Our world is overwhelmed with need. We struggle with human greed, racism, extreme versions of individualism and capitalism, White supremacy, growing wealth gaps, disease, climate crisis, extreme poverty amid luxury and waste right next door. And the list goes on,’ Omeish said, pointing out that the school is on land stolen from the Manahoac people, a Native American tribe.

“The president of the student government introduced her, noting that she campaigned for presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and that her father, Esam Omeish, was a ‘leader and board member of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center’ — the namesake of a mosque attended by two 9/11 hijackers in 2001, the radical imam Anwar Al-Awlaki, and Nidal Hasan, the 2009 Fort Hood shooter.

“At another point in the address, Omeish told the students in Arabic to remember their ‘jihad.’”

Apparently, the remarks were totally in character for Omeish, according to one parent who’s fed up with these kinds of antics:

"‘I think it's important for your viewers to know that Abrar Omeish’s comments here are incendiary comments, are not the first example of divisive and anti-Semitic rhetoric,’ Fairfax County parent Gary Aiken told ‘Fox & Friends First’ on Tuesday.

“Aiken said that several weeks ago, Omeish posted ‘vile anti-Semitic tweets on her social accounts,’ which were linked to her official ‘nonpartisan Fairfax County school board page.’"

Asra Nomani, a former Wall Street Journal columnist, chimed in with some sad but true words. Calling the speech “depressing,” she added: “It was indicative of this radicalization that is happening within school boards and school districts and schools across the country, from principals to teachers to political operatives like [Omeish]."

“Depressing,” indeed.

ITEM #7:

We wanted to wrap up this week with something uplifting in honor of Flag Day, which was this past Monday, June 14.

Many of you may remember the story of Rick Monday, the Chicago Cubs outfielder who once saved an American flag from being burned by protestors who’d made their way onto the Dodger Stadium field in the middle of a game in 1976.

For those unfamiliar with the story — or for those who recall it fondly and want a reason to smile today — Stephen M. Klugewicz takes us on a trip down memory lane in a piece for The Imaginative Conservative:

“As the bottom of the fourth inning got underway, the protesters placed the flag in left-center field and doused it with kerosene. Playing center field, Monday spotted the protesters and raced across the field, snatching the flag just as one of the trespassers was about to set a lighted match to it.

“The crowd at the stadium spontaneously began to sing ‘God Bless America’ after the inning ended, and as Mr. Monday came to bat in the top of the fifth inning, the stadium scoreboard lit up with the message, ‘RICK MONDAY… YOU MADE A GREAT PLAY.’ As a newspaper headline proclaimed the next day: ‘Dodgers win 5-4, but a Cub saves the day.’ Mr. Monday still owns the flag, having turned down various monetary offers, up to a million dollars, for it. Today, he brings the flag to fundraising events he holds on behalf of United States military veterans.”

In this era of woke insanity, when even our major professional sports leagues have been largely digested by the “social-justice” movement, it’s hard not to believe that a similar incident today likely would have played out much differently — especially in how it was reported in the press.

All the more reason to recognize and appreciate the fact that there are still many great patriots among us. They may not always be the loudest voices, but they’re there. And they — and that includes you, friends — will always have our gratitude and respect.

NOTABLE QUOTES

“Pericles’ Funeral Oration, the Magna Carta, and the Declaration of Independence can be appreciated apart from race and gender. In contrast, wokeism takes every event of the past and present and warps it into a racial litmus test, and thus a banality of oppressor and oppressed, as if history is always third-grade melodrama rather than complex tragedy.” ― Victor Davis Hanson

"You're a grand old flag. You're a high flying flag. And forever in peace may you wave. You're the emblem of the land I love. The home of the free and the brave." ― George M. Cohan, “You’re a Grand Old Flag”
